Karl HarperPerformance Handel's Messiah sacred oratorio - Bass

Karl lives in Overseal in South Derbyshire.

He trained under the late John Dethick of Dronfield who was at one time the principle Baritone at Sadlers Wells.

He has been singing for many years, and has competed successfully at music festivals including the Burton upon Trent, Derby and Blackpool. He also sings at many venues and includes Oratorio and Opera in his repertoire. Themed evenings, which include Victorian and Edwardian, Lieder and Show songs are also a speciality.

Karl is married to Dilys and they have three children all of whom are musicians, two being music teachers and one a professional trombonist.

Karl is Musical Director of the Gresley Male Voice choir. The choir performs on average 22 concerts per year, and each year has a celebrity concert.

On leaving school Karl trained as a Mechanical Engineer which led to him becoming a Robotics and Automation engineer. It was in the early nineties that the opportunity to set up a music services business arose and Karl seized that opportunity. So he now has his own business (Karl Harper Music Services – KHMS) which incorporates Singing teaching, Vocal training and the repair of Brass and Woodwind instruments. This enables Karl to share his love of singing by encouraging others to develop their talents.

His vocal tuition involves teaching classical techniques but also his technical knowledge has meant he has a recording studio which pupils can record themselves and produce demo CD’s, either at his establishment or with the mobile studio.

Karl’s wish today is that all who take part, and all who listen, may be uplifted with the music and the genius of George F Handel.
